About Military Ranks

In the United States, there are about nine levels of military ranks listed. Within each level, it comes with an assigned abbreviation that serves as an identifier and as well as a given grade. They also have a significant labels or logo that is important so as for soldiers to recognize as soon as they see the person. They are recognized through the stripes located usually at their collar and sleeves. There are two particular stripes used. One is called the chevrons which has stripes that are pointing up. The other one is called the arcs which are on the chevrons.

The military ranks begin with the Private, PV1, E1 which is the recruit rank. The position is followed with Private, PV2, E2. The person can achieve such level if they have served for about six months. When another twelve months of service is completed, they will advance to a Private First Class. They have an abbreviation of PFC with a grade of E3. Next to it is the Specialist 4, SP4, E4. As compared to the privates, they have more experience as they are trained in an army job which is in a military occupational specialty.  With more experience, they will eventually advance to become a Corporal. Unlike the Specialist, they are identified as a Junior NCO or non-commissioned officer. Sergeant is another level next to it. They are a junior NCO as well but they can serve as a leader on the squad when their staff sergeant is absent. The staff sergeant, on the other hand, is in charge of a platoon of four squads. They can as well act as a platoon leader if their sergeant first class is absent. Sergeant first class is the rank that is considered as a senior non-commissioned officer.
